Many QR code websites quietly create a dynamic code: the square points to their own short link, which redirects to your address, counts every scan and can be switched off when a free trial ends. This generator makes static codes instead. Your link, Wi-Fi details or contact card are written directly into the pattern, so the code keeps working for as long as the printed copy exists, with no account and no middleman.

The code is drawn in your browser, so Wi-Fi passwords and personal contact details are never sent anywhere.

How a QR code stores data

A QR code is a grid of dark and light squares called modules. The three large squares in the corners let a camera find and straighten the code; the remaining modules carry your data plus Reed-Solomon error correction codewords. Codes range from version 1, a 21 by 21 grid, to version 40, a 177 by 177 grid, and the generator automatically picks the smallest version that fits your content. More content means more modules, and smaller modules are harder for a phone to read from a distance.

Error correction lets a scanner rebuild data that is dirty, scratched or covered. Level L restores about 7 percent of the codewords, M about 15 percent, Q about 25 percent and H about 30 percent. The default here is M, a good balance for clean prints and screens. Choose Q or H for codes on packaging, outdoor signs or anything likely to get damaged, accepting that the pattern becomes denser. At the extreme, a single version 40 code holds 2,953 bytes of general text at level L (7,089 if the content is only digits), but only 1,273 bytes at level H.

What you can put in a QR code here

Website links

Menus, flyers, product packaging and slides can send people straight to a page. If you type a bare domain such as example.com/menu, https:// is added so phones recognise it as a link. Short URLs give simpler, easier-to-scan codes.

Wi-Fi network access

Guests point their camera at the code and join without typing the password. The code uses the standard WIFI: format with your network name, password, security type (WPA/WPA2, WEP or no password) and an optional hidden-network flag, which current iPhone and Android cameras understand.

Contact cards

A vCard 3.0 code on a business card, badge or email signature lets someone save your name, company, job title, phone, email, website and address in one tap.

Design and print settings

Scanners need strong contrast between dark modules and a light background. You can pick any Code colour and Background, and the tool warns you when the contrast ratio falls below 3:1 or when the code is lighter than its background, because many readers fail on inverted codes.

Size sets the PNG width from 128 to 1,024 pixels; the SVG is vector and scales to any print size without blurring. Margin is the quiet zone around the code, measured in modules, from 0 to 10, with a default of 2. The QR standard specifies a quiet zone of 4 modules, so raise the margin to 4 for print, especially when the code sits on a busy or coloured design. A common rule of thumb is to print the code at least 2 cm wide and about one tenth of the distance it will be scanned from.

Comment utiliser cet outil

  1. Pick a Content type: Website link, Plain text, Wi-Fi network, Email, Phone number, SMS message or Contact card (vCard).
  2. Fill in the fields. The QR code appears in the preview as soon as the required field is filled.
  3. Optionally set Code colour, Background, Error correction, Size and Margin, and watch for contrast warnings.
  4. Scan the preview with your phone to confirm it opens the right thing.
  5. Download PNG for websites and documents, or SVG for print and design software.

Limitations

  • Codes are static: the content cannot be changed after printing, and there are no scan statistics. To change the destination later, point the code at a page you control.
  • There is no option to place a logo in the middle of the code or add a frame with a call to action.
  • Wi-Fi codes support WPA/WPA2, WEP and open networks. There is no separate setting for enterprise (802.1X) networks.
  • Very long text produces a dense code or an error saying the data does not fit. Shorten the content or lower the error correction level.

Questions fréquentes

Do these QR codes expire?

No. A static code contains your data directly, so it works as long as the content is valid, for example as long as the website exists.

Which error correction level should I choose?

M suits most uses. Use L only when you must fit a lot of data into a small code on a clean surface, and Q or H when the code will be printed on curved, glossy or outdoor surfaces that may get scratched or partly covered.

Can I track how many people scan my code?

Not with the code itself, since nothing sits between the scanner and your content. Add UTM parameters to the link, such as ?utm_source=flyer, and your website analytics will show the visits.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your server?

No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser. Keep in mind that anyone who can see the printed code can read the password from it, so place guest-network codes accordingly.
