Email attachments bounce, websites load slowly and chat apps re-compress badly when images are too big. This tool reduces the file size of JPG, PNG and WebP images by re-encoding them at a quality you control. You see the original and the new size side by side for every image before you download anything.

Unlike most online compressors, nothing is sent to a server. Your photos are read by your browser, compressed in memory and offered back as a download. There is no watermark and no account, and each image can be up to 50 MB.

What does image compression do?

Lossy compression removes detail that is hard to notice, such as subtle colour gradients in a photo, and stores the rest more efficiently. The quality slider controls how aggressive that removal is. At 90 the difference is invisible; at 50 you will notice blockiness in smooth areas but the file is a fraction of the size.

PNG is a lossless format, so re-encoding a PNG at a lower quality does not shrink it much. For PNG photos the real saving comes from switching the output format to WebP or JPG, which this tool lets you do in the same step. Screenshots and graphics with transparency should go to WebP; photos without transparency can go to JPG.

When to compress an image

Attachments with size limits

Most mail servers reject messages over 20 to 25 MB, and job portals or government forms often cap uploads at 1 or 2 MB. Compressing a phone photo from 6 MB to under 1 MB takes a second here.

Product photos and blog images

A page with ten 3 MB photos weighs 30 MB and will fail Core Web Vitals. Compressing them to 200 to 300 KB each keeps them sharp on screen and makes the page load in a fraction of the time.

Saving phone storage

Screenshots and camera photos pile up. Batch compressing a folder before archiving it can cut its size by two thirds without visibly changing the pictures.

How the compressor works

Your browser decodes the image, draws it on an off-screen canvas inside a Web Worker and encodes it again with the chosen quality. For JPG and WebP this is a real re-compression. If you keep the PNG format the encoder is lossless, so choose WebP or JPG as the output format to shrink PNG photos.

Each result shows the percentage saved. When you keep the original format and re-encoding would make a file larger, which can happen with already heavily compressed images and with PNGs, you get the original back unchanged and the result shows 0% smaller. A different output format you chose is always delivered as asked.

Como usar esta ferramenta

  1. Drop JPG, PNG or WebP images on the box above.
  2. Set the quality. 70 to 85 is a good balance for most photos.
  3. Optionally change the output format to WebP or JPG for the biggest saving.
  4. Press Convert and download the results individually or as a ZIP.

Limitations

  • PNG kept as PNG will not shrink significantly; switch the output format to WebP for real savings.
  • EXIF data such as camera model and GPS location is removed during re-encoding.
  • Animated GIF and WebP are not supported; only the first frame would be kept.
  • Images over 50 MB or extremely high resolutions may run out of browser memory on mobile devices.

Perguntas frequentes

Will compressing reduce the image resolution?

No. The width and height stay the same. Only the amount of detail stored per pixel changes. Use the Resize Image tool if you also want smaller dimensions.

Why did my PNG barely get smaller?

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider has little effect. Choose WebP or JPG as the output format. WebP keeps transparency; JPG does not.

Does the tool strip location data from photos?

Yes. Re-encoding through the canvas drops EXIF metadata, including GPS coordinates, which is usually what you want before sharing a photo publicly.

Is there a limit on how many images I can compress?

There is no cap on the number of images; each one can be up to 50 MB. They are processed one after another on your device, so a large batch simply takes longer.
