Designers send PSD files, and the people who receive them often have nothing that opens them: a client on a phone, a developer without an Adobe licence, a printer who just needs a preview. This converter turns PSD and PSB documents into ordinary PNG images that every device, browser and chat app can show.
Drop one file or a whole folder of them, press Convert and download the PNGs. Large design files never leave your computer, which also means there is no upload to wait for.
How a PSD file stores its picture
A Photoshop document holds every layer, mask, text box and adjustment separately so it can be edited later. Rebuilding the final picture from those pieces would mean reimplementing Photoshop's blend modes, layer styles and fonts. Fortunately, Photoshop can also store a ready-made flattened copy of the whole canvas inside the file, called the composite image. That copy is controlled by the setting Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility, which is usually left on.
This tool reads that composite, so the PNG looks exactly as the document did when it was last saved, with effects, text and adjustment layers already applied. PSB, the Large Document Format for canvases over 30,000 pixels, is read the same way.
When to convert PSD to PNG
Reviewing designs without Photoshop
Stakeholders, clients and teammates can check a mockup, a poster or a social graphic from a PNG on any device, and comment on it in email or chat, without installing anything.
Exporting web assets from a design handoff
When a PSD contains a finished banner or illustration, the PNG is ready to drop into a website, a slide deck or a CMS. Transparent areas of the canvas stay transparent.
Building previews for an asset library
Stock sellers, agencies and archivists keep folders of PSD files. Converting them in a batch gives a matching set of PNG previews for catalogues and file browsers.
What the converter does with your document
Before decoding anything, the tool reads the 26-byte file header to check the size and colour mode. Documents above 100 megapixels, and colour modes it cannot convert, are refused straight away with a message instead of filling up your browser's memory. The file is then parsed in a Web Worker by the open-source ag-psd library, skipping the individual layer images and the thumbnail, and the composite's pixels are written to a PNG with the same width and height.
Bitmap, Grayscale, Indexed and RGB documents are supported. CMYK, Lab, Duotone and Multichannel documents are not, because turning their colours into RGB properly needs colour management that this tool does not do. Documents with 16 bits per channel are reduced to 8 bits, the depth of a standard PNG, and 32-bit HDR documents are converted from linear light to ordinary sRGB values.
Как пользоваться инструментом
- Drop one or more .psd or .psb files on the box above, up to 300 MB each.
- There are no settings: each document becomes one PNG.
- Press Convert and wait for each row to show Done.
- Download a PNG, or press Download all (.zip) for the whole batch.
Limitations
- Layers are not exported separately and hidden layers cannot be shown; you get exactly the flattened image Photoshop saved.
- A document saved with Maximize Compatibility turned off has no usable composite and is reported as unsupported. Open it in Photoshop, turn the setting on under Preferences, File Handling, and save again.
- CMYK, Lab, Duotone and Multichannel documents are refused. Convert them with Image, Mode, RGB Color in Photoshop first.
- No colour profile is embedded in the PNG, so documents in wide-gamut profiles such as Adobe RGB may look a little less saturated. Some 16 and 32-bit documents with a transparent background cannot be converted; an 8-bit copy works.
