Copy a paragraph out of a PDF, an old plain-text email or a terminal window and paste it somewhere else, and you often get a hard line break every sixty or eighty characters. The text looks fine in the source but turns into a ragged column in a document, a form field or a social post. Deleting each break by hand is fiddly, especially across several pages.
Paste the broken text here and the line breaks are replaced with a single space, so sentences flow again. You can also join lines with nothing at all or with your own separator, and keep blank-line paragraph breaks so a long text does not become one giant block. A counter shows how many breaks were removed, and the result can be copied or downloaded. The text stays in your browser.
Hard line breaks versus wrapping
Most apps wrap long lines automatically: the line break you see on screen is not in the text, and it moves when the window is resized. A hard line break is an actual character stored in the text, written as a line feed on Linux and macOS, a carriage return plus line feed on Windows, or occasionally a Unicode line or paragraph separator. PDFs store text as positioned lines, plain-text email is often wrapped at a fixed width, and copying from either gives you those hard breaks.
Removing line breaks means deleting those characters and putting something sensible in their place. This tool recognises all of the variants listed above, so text from any operating system is handled the same way.
When to remove line breaks
Text copied from PDFs
Quotes, abstracts and contract clauses pasted from a PDF arrive broken at the end of every printed line. Joining them with A space and Keep paragraphs on restores readable paragraphs.
Turning a list into one line
Choose Custom with the default comma and space to turn a column of names, tags or IDs into a single comma-separated line for a form, a spreadsheet formula or a SQL IN clause.
Repairing long codes and keys
Base64 strings, API keys, certificates and long URLs are sometimes wrapped when sent by email. Replacing breaks with Nothing reassembles them exactly, without inserting spaces.
Posts, captions and form fields
Some fields reject line breaks or display them oddly. Flattening the text first gives you control over how it appears instead of leaving it to the platform.
Replacement modes and paragraphs
Replace breaks with offers three choices. A space, the default, joins lines with one space and trims spaces at the start and end of each line first, so you do not get double spaces at the joins. Nothing joins lines directly and leaves every other character untouched, which is what you want for codes and keys. Custom shows a Custom text box, filled with a comma and a space to start with, and inserts whatever you type there between lines; it can be a single character, a word, or several characters such as " | ".
Blank lines never produce an empty entry: they are skipped when lines are joined. When Keep paragraphs is on, text separated by one or more blank lines is treated as separate paragraphs; the lines inside each paragraph are joined, and exactly one blank line is kept between paragraphs. The Line breaks removed counter shows how many breaks were taken out in total.
So verwenden Sie dieses Tool
- Paste the text with unwanted breaks into the input box.
- Under Replace breaks with, choose A space, Nothing or Custom, and type your separator in Custom text if needed.
- Turn on Keep paragraphs if the text has several paragraphs you want to keep apart.
- Check the joined text in the output pane, then Copy it or Download it as a text file.
Things it does not fix
- Words hyphenated across a line, such as "infor-" followed by "mation" on the next line, become "infor- mation". Search for "- " afterwards and fix those by hand.
- Extra spaces inside a line are left alone. Only spaces at the start and end of lines are trimmed, and only in A space mode.
- Keep paragraphs relies on blank lines. If the source separates paragraphs only by indentation or by a single break, it cannot tell them from wrapped lines.
- Headers, footers and page numbers copied from a PDF stay in the text and get joined into it.
