The error usually reads something like "File type not supported. Please upload a JPG or PNG." You have a perfectly good picture, but it is a WebP, because that is what your browser saved or your phone exported. Plenty of upload systems were built around JPG and never updated their whitelist. Converting to JPG is the quickest way past that wall, and JPG keeps file sizes modest, which matters when the same form also caps uploads at 2 MB.

Here the conversion runs locally in your browser. Add one WebP or a stack of them, pick a quality, and download JPG copies a few seconds later. Nothing is sent to us, which is worth knowing when the image is a passport photo or a scanned ID card.

What changes when a WebP becomes a JPG

Both formats are usually lossy, but they compress in different ways, so the converter has to decode the WebP to plain pixels and encode those pixels again as JPEG. That second encoding is where quality is decided. Each lossy save adds its own small errors on top of the ones already in the file, an effect known as generation loss. Setting the quality to 85 or higher keeps those new errors below what most people can see; at lower settings you may notice blocky skies or smeared fine textures.

JPG has no transparency. If your WebP has a see-through background, such as a product cut-out or a logo, those areas are filled with white in the JPG. White is what most marketplaces require for product images anyway, but if you need the transparency preserved, convert to PNG instead.

Where a JPG gets through and a WebP does not

Marketplace and classifieds listings

Some selling platforms and classifieds sites still accept only JPG, PNG or GIF for listing photos, especially through their bulk upload or CSV import tools. Converting the WebP images you saved from a supplier's site gets your listing live without waiting for the platform to catch up.

Job applications and CV portals

Applicant tracking systems often ask for a profile photo or scanned certificates in JPG only. A WebP headshot can simply be rejected, sometimes without a clear error message. A JPG at quality 90 looks crisp and stays well under typical size limits.

Government and visa forms

Passport renewals, visa applications and benefit portals tend to specify JPG explicitly, along with pixel dimensions and a maximum file size. Convert here first, then use the Resize Image tool if the form also demands particular dimensions.

How this converter processes your WebP

createImageBitmap decodes the WebP inside a Web Worker, so the page never freezes. The worker paints a white background on an off-screen canvas, draws your image over it, and calls the browser's JPEG encoder with the quality you selected. The finished JPG comes back to the page as a download, named after the original file with a .jpg extension.

The quality slider runs from 10 to 100 and starts at 82. For anything a person will inspect closely, such as an ID photo or a product shot, move it to 85 or 90. Drop it lower only when a portal sets a strict size cap and the file is still too large; the results list shows the new size so you can adjust and try again.

Cara memakai alat ini

  1. Select the WebP images you need to submit, or drop them onto the area above.
  2. Raise the quality to 85 or more for photos that will be checked by a person.
  3. Click Convert. Each row shows the JPG size next to the original.
  4. Download the JPGs one at a time, or all together as a ZIP, and upload them to the form.

Before you upload the result

  • Transparent regions become solid white; there is no option for another background colour yet.
  • Animated WebP stickers and memes turn into a single still image taken from the first frame.
  • Camera metadata and location data are not written to the JPG, and colour profiles may shift slightly.
  • Pixel dimensions are unchanged. If a form needs a specific size, resize the JPG afterwards.

Pertanyaan yang sering diajukan

Why do websites still reject WebP files?

Many upload systems validate files against a fixed list of extensions written years ago, or pass images to back-end software that cannot decode WebP. Until those systems are updated, JPG is the format almost every form accepts.

What quality should I choose for a passport or ID photo?

Use 90 or higher. Officials and automated checks look for sharp facial detail, and the file will usually still be well below common limits of 1 to 2 MB. If it is not, lower the quality in small steps.

My logo had a transparent background. Why is it white now?

JPG cannot store transparency, so the converter places the image on a white background. If you need to keep the background clear, use the WebP to PNG converter instead.

Is it safe to convert personal documents here?

The file is processed by your own browser and never transmitted. There is no server copy to leak or delete. Closing the tab discards the copies held in memory.
