A full-screen screenshot on a high-resolution laptop can easily weigh 3 to 5 MB as a PNG. Attach ten of them to an email and you hit the size limit; paste them into a chat and the app may recompress them badly on its own terms. Converting to JPG first gives you control: you decide the quality, the file is usually a fraction of the size, and the recipient can open it on any device.

This page does the conversion in your browser, so confidential slides, client mock-ups and screenshots of internal dashboards never leave your computer. Add as many PNGs as you like, convert them in one pass, and take the JPGs away individually or in a ZIP.

PNG and JPG are built for different jobs

PNG records every pixel exactly. That makes it ideal for interfaces, diagrams and text, where a single wrong pixel is visible, but it is inefficient for anything with gradients, shadows or photographic content. JPG approximates instead: it keeps the overall look of each small patch and drops fine variation, which is why a photo-heavy design can shrink dramatically when saved as JPG.

The price shows up at hard edges. Around dark text on a light background, JPG produces faint speckles and halos, sometimes called mosquito noise. At quality 90 or above they are hard to spot at normal zoom; at 60 they become obvious, especially on small fonts and thin lines. So the right quality depends on the content: a screenshot full of text deserves a higher setting than a photo collage.

Good reasons to turn a PNG into a JPG

Emailing screenshots and slide exports

Exported presentation slides and long screenshots are typically saved as PNG by default. As JPGs at quality 85 to 90 they remain readable while the attachment total drops enough to get under a mail server's limit.

Sharing design previews with clients

A mock-up exported from Figma or Canva as PNG often contains photographs and soft shadows. A JPG preview loads faster in the client's inbox or messaging app, and they cannot easily mistake it for the production-ready master file.

Uploading to services that ask for JPG

Print-on-demand shops, older forums and some social or messaging apps handle JPG more predictably than PNG. Converting yourself avoids surprise compression or rejected uploads.

How transparency and quality are handled

Your PNG is decoded in a background worker and drawn onto a canvas that has first been filled with white. Any transparent or semi-transparent pixels blend with that white, because JPG has no way to store an alpha channel. A logo on a clear background therefore ends up on a white rectangle; a soft drop shadow fades into white rather than into whatever page it is later placed on.

The canvas is then encoded as JPEG at the quality you set, default 82. For screenshots containing small text, 88 to 92 keeps letters clean. For photographic designs, 75 to 85 is usually indistinguishable from the PNG at a far smaller size. Each result lists the before and after size so you can see whether the trade is worthwhile.

Come usare questo strumento

  1. Drop your PNG screenshots or exports into the box, or click to select them.
  2. Pick a quality: around 90 for text-heavy images, around 80 for photos and artwork.
  3. Hit Convert and compare the new JPG sizes against the originals.
  4. Download single files or press Download all (.zip) to collect every JPG.

When a PNG should stay a PNG

  • Logos, icons and anything placed over coloured backgrounds need transparency; JPG will give them a white box.
  • Line art, pixel art, QR codes and small text are cleaner as PNG; JPG artefacts can blur edges or affect scanning.
  • Images you will keep editing should stay lossless, since every JPG save loses a little more detail.
  • Simple flat graphics with few colours are sometimes smaller as PNG than as JPG; check the size shown in the results.

Domande frequenti

Why does the text in my converted screenshot look fuzzy?

JPG struggles with sharp contrast between text and background, and adds slight noise around letters. Convert again with the quality at 90 or higher. If the screenshot is mostly text and flat colour, keeping it as PNG may actually give a smaller file.

What happens to the transparent parts of my PNG?

They become white. The converter fills the canvas with white before drawing your image, so semi-transparent shadows and anti-aliased edges also blend towards white. If you need a transparent result, choose PNG to WebP instead.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

For photographic or gradient-rich images, often dramatically smaller. For flat screenshots the saving is smaller and occasionally the JPG is larger. The results list shows the exact percentage for every file.

Is there a limit on file size?

Each PNG can be up to 50 MB. Very large canvases, such as poster-size exports, may need more memory than a phone can provide, so use a desktop browser for those.
