Many official forms are published as fillable PDFs: visa applications, tax declarations, school enrolment sheets, insurance claims. Opened in the wrong app, though, the boxes refuse input, or the answers vanish when the file is saved. This tool reads the fields from the form and gives you a clean list to fill in, next to a preview of the page that shows where each answer will go.
The form never leaves your device. The PDF is read in your browser, your answers are written into the file there, and the filled copy is downloaded straight back to you. That matters for forms full of passport numbers, incomes and medical details.
What a fillable PDF form is
A fillable PDF contains interactive fields, technically called an AcroForm: text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns and selection lists, each with a name and a position on the page. Filling the form stores your answer in the field and draws it into the box so every viewer shows it. A PDF that merely looks like a form, such as a scan or a document exported without fields, has nothing to type into, and the tool says so.
Flattening turns the filled fields into ordinary page content. The answers then look the same everywhere, cannot be changed by accident, and survive tools that drop form fields, such as page organizers or mergers. Keep an unflattened copy if you might need to correct something later, because a flattened form can no longer be edited as a form.
When to use the form filler
Government and tax forms
Agencies often publish fillable PDFs and ask for the completed file by email or upload. Filling here avoids printing, handwriting and scanning, and the typed answers are easier for the office to read.
Forms on a phone or a borrowed computer
Phones and shared computers often lack a PDF editor that handles forms properly. The browser is enough here, and nothing is installed or left behind on the machine.
Sending a final version that cannot be altered
When a supplier or landlord should receive answers that cannot be changed, switch on Flatten form before downloading. The fields become part of the page and the file reads like a printed, completed form.
Filling the fields
After you open the PDF, the fields appear in a list with a counter of how many are filled. Text fields take typed answers and respect the form's character limit; checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns and lists show their choices. Required fields are marked with an asterisk and read-only fields are shown but cannot be changed. The preview highlights every field on the current page; click a highlighted box to jump to its entry. The preview shows the original file, so your typing appears in the downloaded copy, not in the picture.
Answers in Latin script are drawn into the fields directly. Answers in other scripts, such as Arabic, Cyrillic or Chinese, are saved in the fields with a flag asking the viewer to draw them with its own fonts. Acrobat, browsers and most desktop viewers do so. Such a form cannot be flattened, because the standard fonts used to bake answers into the page only cover Latin text, so the tool stops with an error instead of producing a file with missing answers. Switch Flatten form off and download again.
Come usare questo strumento
- Drop the PDF form on the box above or choose it from your device (up to 200 MB).
- Fill in the fields in the list, using the page preview to see where each one sits.
- Switch on Flatten form if the answers should become fixed page content.
- Press Download filled PDF. The copy is named -filled, or -flattened when flattened.
Limitations
- XFA forms (often made with Adobe LiveCycle) and scanned paper forms have no fields this tool can fill.
- Signature fields are skipped. To sign the form, download it and add a signature with Sign PDF.
- Calculations and scripts built into a form, such as automatic totals, do not run here; some viewers recalculate them when the file is opened.
- Forms with answers in non-Latin scripts cannot be flattened, and a few mobile viewers may not display those answers.
- Password-protected forms and forms locked against changes are refused. Saving also invalidates an existing digital signature.
