PNG is the closest thing images have to a universal working format. Design apps, slide software, documentation tools, game engines and every operating system open it, it stores transparency, and saving it again never degrades the picture. When you are collecting images from different places and want them all in that one dependable format, this page converts the whole set at once.

Drop in any mix of JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF files, along with PNGs you want re-saved, press Convert and collect a PNG for each. The conversion is done by your own browser, so nothing is uploaded, nothing is queued on a server and there is no per-day allowance.

Why PNG is a good common denominator

Converting to PNG is lossless in one direction: the pixels your browser decodes from the source are written to the PNG exactly. No new compression artefacts are introduced, and you can open, edit and save the result any number of times without it getting worse. What PNG cannot do is restore detail a lossy source threw away earlier, so a heavily compressed JPG or WebP keeps its existing blockiness.

File size depends heavily on where an image came from. A BMP is stored raw, so the same pixels as PNG are typically much smaller with zero quality change. A GIF moves to PNG with its transparency intact. Photos from JPG, WebP or AVIF, on the other hand, usually grow several times larger, because PNG must describe every speck of texture exactly. That growth is expected and is the price of a lossless copy.

When a batch PNG conversion is the right move

Collecting assets for a design or slide deck

Reference images pulled from the web arrive as WebP and AVIF, a client sends JPGs and an old logo turns up as a GIF. Converting the whole collection to PNG means every file opens in Figma, Keynote, PowerPoint or an older Photoshop without a format warning.

Making BMP scans practical

Scanners and older Windows tools often save BMP, which wastes disk space and is awkward to email. PNG keeps every pixel of the scan while cutting the file to a fraction, so the conversion is a free saving with no quality trade-off.

Preparing images for documentation and wikis

Knowledge bases, README files and help centres render PNG everywhere, while AVIF and sometimes WebP can show up as broken images in older viewers or exported PDFs. A PNG version guarantees the screenshot or diagram appears for every reader.

How the files are processed

A background Web Worker handles your files in order. For each one it calls createImageBitmap to decode the image, draws the pixels onto an off-screen canvas at full size and exports that canvas with the browser's PNG encoder. The output keeps the source file name and swaps the extension, so holiday.webp becomes holiday.png.

You will notice there are no options. PNG compression has no quality dial: every setting would yield identical pixels, so the page simply converts. Transparency travels across from formats that have it (WebP, GIF, AVIF and PNG itself), and fully opaque sources remain opaque. Input files are accepted up to 50 MB each, and the batch can be as long as you like, since each image is handled in turn on your device.

Bu araç nasıl kullanılır

  1. Drag a selection of images onto the drop area, in any mix of PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF, or click to browse for them.
  2. Check the list of queued files; there are no settings because PNG output is lossless.
  3. Press Convert. Each row shows the source size, the PNG size and the percentage change.
  4. Save individual PNGs with Download, or the full set with Download all (.zip).

Worth knowing

  • Animated GIF, WebP or AVIF files become a still PNG of the first frame.
  • PNG copies of photographs are often several times bigger than the JPG, WebP or AVIF they came from.
  • AVIF only opens in browsers that can decode it; an unreadable file fails on its own row.
  • Camera metadata such as EXIF dates and GPS is not written into the PNG, and iPhone HEIC files are not accepted.

Sıkça sorulan sorular

Does converting to PNG improve quality?

It preserves quality rather than improving it. The PNG matches the decoded source pixel for pixel, so nothing further is lost, but artefacts already present in a lossy JPG, WebP or AVIF stay exactly as they were.

Why did my BMP get smaller but my JPG get bigger?

BMP usually stores pixels with no compression at all, so PNG's lossless compression shrinks it considerably. JPG uses lossy compression that is far more aggressive than anything PNG can do without losing data, so the lossless PNG of a photo needs more bytes.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels from WebP, GIF, AVIF and PNG sources are written into the PNG's alpha channel. JPG and BMP images have no transparency, so their PNG versions are fully opaque.

Can I convert many images at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you need, in different formats if you like. They are converted one after another in your browser, and Download all (.zip) gathers the PNGs into one archive.
