Data converters
7 toolsConvert CSV, Excel, JSON and YAML, and format JSON, without uploading.
- CSV to JSONPaste a CSV export or open a file and get clean JSON instantly, with leading zeros and long IDs left exactly as they were.
- JSON to CSVTurn API responses and JSON exports into a spreadsheet-ready table, with nested fields flattened into columns.
- CSV to XLSXGet a proper Excel workbook from a CSV file, with ZIP codes, long IDs and accented names intact.
- XLSX to CSVSave each sheet of an Excel workbook as a clean UTF-8 CSV file, ready for scripts, databases and imports.
- XLSX to JSONTurn spreadsheet rows into JSON objects with real numbers, booleans and ISO dates, straight from the workbook.
- JSON FormatterPretty-print or minify JSON, find the exact spot of a syntax error, and browse the data as a collapsible tree.
- YAML to JSON ConverterSwitch configuration files between YAML and JSON in either direction, with errors located to the line.
How these tools work
The data converters move tables and structured data between the formats that spreadsheets, APIs and configuration files use. Everything is parsed and written in your browser, so exports from a CRM, customer lists or keys in a configuration file never reach a server.
CSV to JSON detects the delimiter, uses the header row as keys and can build nested objects from dotted column names. JSON to CSV flattens nested objects into the columns you choose and can add a byte order mark so Excel shows accented letters correctly. CSV to XLSX creates an Excel workbook from each CSV file, XLSX to CSV saves every sheet of a workbook as its own CSV file, and XLSX to JSON turns a chosen sheet into a list of rows with dates written in ISO format.
JSON Formatter pretty-prints, minifies and validates JSON, points to the line and column of a syntax error, can sort keys and shows the data as a collapsible tree. The YAML and JSON converter works in both directions, which helps with Kubernetes manifests, continuous integration pipelines and other configuration files. Large inputs work too: the text tools accept up to 10 million characters (about 10 MB), and the file converters take files of up to 50 MB each.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Excel show strange characters in my CSV?
Excel opens CSV files in an older encoding unless the file starts with a byte order mark. JSON to CSV can add one, so names with accents or in other alphabets show correctly when the file is opened.
What happens to nested JSON when it becomes CSV?
Nested objects are flattened into columns with dotted names, such as address.city. CSV to JSON can rebuild the nesting from the same headers, so the data survives the round trip.
Is my data uploaded?
No. The files and text you enter are processed by code running in this browser tab, and the page only downloads the converter code it needs. Nothing from your data is sent to a server.
